IBAG Sitting Volleyball Tournament 2011

Thursday 8th December 2011 (tbc)

Objective
In conjunction with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), annually observed on 3rd December, the objective of the IBAG Sitting Volleyball Tournament is to engage firms across Canary Wharf and the city to take part in a fun inclusive activity that is accessible to all. In doing so you will be raising awareness of a Paralympics’ sport which will be played at London 2012, while also raising vital funds for Whizz-Kidz who provide disabled children and young people with the right mobility equipment, training and skills at the right time.

What is sitting volleyball?

  • Sitting volleyball is just like volleyball but with a few differences:
  • 6 players per team (plus one reserve)
  • Buttocks must remain on the floor
  • Blocking a serve is permitted
  • Court is 10m x 6m
  • Net is 1.5 metres high

Why get involved?
There are six key benefits your organisation getting involved:
Possible engagement with clients of your business
Enthuse employees and encourage team building
Brand alignment with a national children’s charity and national sporting governing body to promote your firm’s corporate responsibility
Raise vital funds for disabled children and young people
Raise awareness of a London 2012 Paralympics’ sport
Changing people’s perception of disability and focussing on what disabled people can do rather than can’t do

Participation

You and your colleagues will pull together a team to participate in the IBAG Sitting Volleyball Tournament organised by Volleyball England and Whizz-Kidz in the Canary Wharf area. It will be a knock out competition consisting of approximately 16 teams, with the winners crowned IBAG Sitting Volleyball champions 2011!
Team size: 7 (6 players on the court at any one time with one reserve)
